Orthopaedics (or orthopedics) is a branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. This system includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves, which work together to support and move the body.
1. Bone Disorders: Fractures, osteoporosis, bone infections, and deformities.
2. Joint Problems: Arthritis, dislocations, bursitis, and joint replacement surgeries (like hip or knee replacements).
3. Spinal Issues: Scoliosis, herniated discs, and lower back pain.
4. Soft Tissue Injuries: Tendonitis, ligament tears (e.g., ACL injuries), and rotator cuff injuries.
5. Congenital Disorders: Clubfoot, bowlegs, and other deformities present at birth.
6. Sports Injuries: Sprains, strains, overuse injuries, and meniscal tears.
